Great Rivals Brazil and Argentine Qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar

It is surely no surprise that Brazil and Argentine have progressed from the qualifying stages for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to take their places in the tournament. It is surely no surprise that Brazil and Argentine have progressed from the qualifying stages for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to take their places in the tournament. The two favourites to go through from teams governed by CONMEBOL – the South American Football Federation – each have an envied reputation in World Cup History.

Brazil have been World Cup champions no fewer than 5 times – a record – with the last success being in 2002. Argentina has won twice, but its last win was a long time ago in 1986. The question as to the other nations to qualify from the South American group should be answered by the 29th of March, when the final games of this round are played.

With the two aforementioned teams already confirmed, next in the table are Ecuador. They will meet Paraguay, who are currently 9th in the table, on March 24th, and then Argentina five days later. Just three points behind Ecuador is Uruguay – famously hosts and winners of the first World Cup in 1930 and again in 1950 – who have to play Peru and then Chile.

With four more teams qualifying from this group it looks as though Uruguay has the easiest route to Qatar, but it is hard to see which other three nations will be there in November. Colombia, Peru, and Chile are currently the favourites to move on, yet we shall have to wait until the end of March for confirmation.
